The type of photography that makes use of digital technology to make images of various subjects is referred to as digital photography. Before its invention, photographers relied on film photography in producing images of objects and had to go through photographic processing to become visible. With the advancement of technology, it is rather obvious that to learning digital photography is vital for those who want to take photos of great quality.

Future digital photographers should be ready to enroll in a photography college or can contact a photography studio where they can work as trainees. The latter option may be very tiring as the trainee may be required to work hard with or without a break to assist photographers who have to beat the set deadlines. The third method of getting knowledge would be for one to acquire digital photography books as this would enable him or her to study conveniently.

The training is very important as the learner will end up being able to take professional pictures as well as learn the setbacks that are linked to digital photography and how to resolve them. One will also be able to do good quality printing of digital photos resulting from the expertise learnt in printing software and printer inks. Once through the training, the trainee will be well versed with concepts such as flashes, lighting and horizontal lines.

It is advisable that any beginner should use an uncomplicated digital camera till the time he or she has mastered the skills of digital photography, as by then one will have learnt many of the skills of the art after training in mastery of digital photography. He or she will be trained on the application of the white balance which increases warmth on the photographs and reflections and glares can destroy a good picture and this is the reason why one should learn how to use a filter as this will reduce them. He or she will also be able to make the correct photo framing and also use the flash optimally when needed. Leaning how to frame the object is very important to a learner. One should also learn digital photography basics such as having a large-sized memory card and charged batteries whenever he or she is in the process of taking many photos.

So you just go a new digital camera. And very excited to start taking photos with your new gadget??

But some how these pictures are not turning out as you want !! Fret no more, read more for the 4 tips on getting the most out of your new camera.

Trick #1 – Try out different camera exposure settings
—————————————————
By looking at the setting for exposure in your camera, you could have pictures looking more brilliant with 0.5 to 2 stops underexposed in bright surroundings, and scenes appearing more clear with some overexposure. Simply adjusting the exposure level, you can create pictures which can bring out different moods from people viewing it. Thats why the quote “A Picture Says A Thousand Words” is very true indeed ! For new photographers, try out bracketing(i.e: taking pictures with different exposures level) and choose the best ones from them.

Trick #2 – Bring out some creative blur in photos
—————————————————
By using blur you can showcase out stronger features of a picture, while using the rest as good complement, providing an overall nice touch. This can be completed in 2 basic types.

First type is depth-of-field blur. Varying the lens aperture between 0.4 to 1.4 can create a lovely, soft background blur which bring sharp focus to the subject in the foreground.

Second type is movement blur. Done by setting the camera exposure on shutter priority, and keep it slow so as to capture interesting streaks as the subject moves in front of the camera.

Trick #3 – Create something out of nothing !!
—————————————————
How so? This exercise encourages you to take a step back and rethink how you can take wonderful pictures with things you already encountered on a daily basis.

One approach is to create your shot around the common elements around you such as lines, space and patterns. This can mean anything from the roads to the bridges, the trees, the railings, etc.. You start to see more possibilities and room for creativity.

Trick #4 – Take Unique Photos !!
————————————–
Try to avoid taking photos from already popular places where everyone else has taken before, the picture will be dull, and the excitement is gone. Try out new exciting photography (for example: underwater photography), or it could be as easy as shooting through thick glasses for that extra 3D feel, or shooting reflections of objects in water or other reflective objects.

Are you one that just takes pictures of friends without thinking how they might turn out? Portrait photography takes you a step up from people photography. It gives you elements to notice such as the angle you take the photograph, the lighting you will use, and the expression of emotion on a persons face. While you may be an amateur photographer deciding to take Christmas photos without the expense you will need to have some basic knowledge of techniques used by the professionals. You can find this knowledge through a digital photography course online but first, read a good digital photography course review.

First when taking a photograph of a person you need to study their face. The face is important to the angle you will shoot from. Though it is a cliché, it is true some people have a better side. This could be in relation to scarring or acne breakouts or even simpler. For instance my left eye is larger than my right by just a bit, and looking head on into the camera will cause a horrible portrait, however if the photographer comes from the right side and angles up a little the light and shadows will help even out the features while keeping the distinctions that make me who I am.

Capturing the essence of the subject’s personality is what portrait photography is all about. The little nuances of a face add character to the portrait. You will want to loosen up your subjects. If you are becoming a professional portrait photographer you will want to learn about your subject as you are taking pictures or perhaps meet them before the session. You should know what would get their personality captured on film if they are just your family.

The next important step to portrait photography is lighting. A lot of photographers prefer natural light to artificial. In part, your subject will make this decision for you. Remember you will use the light you have. Natural light will often require setting the aperture to compensate for the cameras lack of definition. To get the effect you want you need to create the contrast between the light and shadows in other words. Often artificial light is harsh and not directed properly unless in a studio. Again you will need to use the manual settings on your camera to create the perfect portrait.

The background is also important when discussing light.Picking backgrounds that will not wash out features or clothing is what good studio photographers do. They want to have a distinction or contrast between you and the background. This is also important of home portrait photography. You will want a background that gives color to your subject rather than taking it away. Finding a nice spot with a tree to sit on and mountains in the background can be a great portrait, but you will want to make sure the background is not too busy to distract from the subject. Make the subject seem apart of the picture rather than outside of it.

The type of camera and film you use will also determine the quality of the photograph. Once you combine techniques such as lighting, angles, and understanding your subject you will be able to create a near to professional if not professional portrait for your friends and family no matter the occasion.Wouldn’t it be great to have a better portrait rather then just snapping another picture?

Ever been disappointed in your digital landscape photography photos? Wonder why they don’t look as good as others that you have seen in books or magazines? Your not alone, most photographers are never happy with their own images. Not to mention the fact that you can’t rearrange a nature scene to your liking. Shooting landscapes does not have to be a mystery if you just take a minute to plan your shots.

Of course a nice breath taking view would be nice for starters, landscape photography is actually an art. Always be on the lookout for a great scene, what may just be “farm land” to someone, could actually be a winning photograph to others. Just as an example, I went to visit my Dad recently and he had this beautiful landscape scene photo that he had shot up on the Blueridge Parkway. I told him how really beautiful it was, it truly was a breath taking photo even though it was just of some farm land with bails of hay strewn about, a torn up roof on a barn, etc. Do you want to know what made the scene so beautiful? Season was the main key, my Dad took the photo during fall colors, the trees were beautiful. The trees were all changing with different colors, the lighting (time of day) was just right. It was just an awesome photograph. I guess my point is that you must consider all variations, my Dad took me to the spot where he shot the photo in the middle of the summer and I didn’t even take a picture, it just wasn’t “breath taking” on a plain ole summer day.

Always consider weather, which may add to the beauty of a landscape scene. Consider storm clouds or white puffy clouds or even just a really beautiful deep blue sky. These things I've suggested are simply to give you ideas and get your creative juices flowing and they will definitely improve your photographs. Consider lighting for great photographs whether it be sunset, dawn, night or any other time of the day, lighting plays a key role in making photos either boring or great.

When I was up on the Blueridge Parkway with my Dad, I began to notice textures, like old wood or even bails of hay, I took some very interesting pictures of hay and split rail fences and buildings with old grainy, gray wood. I think they are pretty awesome anyway. If properly composed, even an old wooden window can make a great photograph.

Nature scenes are always fun to shoot and are a favorite of many photographers. Especially, those breath taking landscape photographs. At least you don’t have to make people smile, etc. Nature is just plain beautiful and it doesn't have to "say cheese" to look pretty. Keep in mind the few tips I’ve given you here and your images will surely improve. Remember planning is a big part, visit your scene at different times of the day and keep in mind clouds, weather, lighting, tree colors, etc. I sincerely hope I have given you some great ideas and things to think about. Ok, go take some great photos.

photo sharing

Digital photography is sweeping the nation as the new way to take and process photographs. By using digital cameras, the photography community has expanded into mainstream society. Digital photography is very accessible in today’s retail market, and it has become very inexpensive for even the novice photographer to try their hand at the photography business. With the use of the correct photography equipment, digital photography can be an invigorating experience.

The first thing that a person must invest in when thinking of using digital photography is the right camera. In order to understand what constitutes the right camera for someone, a person must understand how exactly the digital camera works. A digital camera works is by using an electronic device to store and capture an image into binary data. In other words, the picture is turned into a form of information that can be understood by a computer’s electronic brain. This allows the pictures to be uploaded onto a computer for the purpose of sharing. Conversion also allows the camera to automatically allow the user to see and or delete the image as necessary. Unlike film cameras, digital cameras have a unique capability to allow someone to get just the right shot. No more closed eyes or open mouths to deal with.

When thinking of choosing a digital photography camera, a person must think about just how much information they will store. Will they be an avid photographer that takes a ton of pictures? Or will their digital photography experience be limited to just a few pictures every now and then to capture those extra special moments? The special units that house the pictures can range from holding a few pictures to many. The space used will depend on what type of camera will be used.

Choosing the right camera is a big job. With so much information currently on the market it can overwhelm the novice photographer. One reference avenue that most people take advantage of is the internet. From the net, people can look at the different cameras and price ranges to determine which one will best fit their needs. One internet site that deals with this dilemma is www.shortcourses.com. Here a person can learn which of the four kinds of digital cameras will fit their lifestyle.

Digital photography has been a wonderful addition to the photography community. By taking advantage of the benefits that digital photography has to offer, a person can have lasting memories forever. And by doing a little research, especially on the internet, the choice of which camera best suits them will be easier. Photography is beginning a new revolution that will soon not end.

Did you enjoy this article? Curious about Dominating Digital Photography? Well now you can by Discovering this Digital Photography Blog…what are you waiting for?

The smaller the better appears to be the motto behind today’s compact digital cameras. As the world is getting more and more fast, people want their gadgets to be handy. Digital cameras especially are not the exception to the rule. This desire for accessibility is the major factor behind the birth of a compact edition of digital cameras.

The smaller the better appears to be the motto behind today’s compact digital cameras. It has changed the world of photography by producing high quality images with limited cost. Today’s compact digital cameras are smaller in size and have more features than their counterparts. Another argument can be made that compact digital cameras are actually a step ahead of digital SLR cameras or any other camera available on the market today.

The standard size of a compact camera is generally 3.5 W x 2.5 H x 1.0 D. Depending on the type, the model and the brand of your compact digital camera these dimensions can vary a little. If you are in the market to purchase one of these cameras I recommend you look for one with the certified label of Jeanspocket on it. Jeanspocket compact cameras are so compact that you can comfortably keep it in the pocket of your jeans. The ability to do this is the newer striking criterion added to the compact digital cams by the fast generation of today.

The whole idea behind the compact digital cameras is that they make the photography fast and simple, without causing any discomfort due to their large size.

There are many plus points in the compact digital cameras, apart from their small size. Typical features of compact digital cameras include multiple scenes, optical zooms, exposure modes and other handy functions. Some compact digital cameras, having 11 mm or less diagonal sensors make fairly low noise at ISO 100. But, at ISO 400 and above, the noise of the camera can be quite bothering. Some compact digital cameras are so small to look at, that they demand a close look from those who wish to buy them.

Most compact digital cameras come with a $200 to $500 price tag. You will find similar amazing functions and features among all brands. The sensor resolutions vary from 3.0 to 8.0 mega pixels and possibly more. The ultra-compact models are the size of a credit card. They are just less than an inch thick and are equipped with advanced features and high-resolution sensors. Advanced controls include such features as multiple AF zones, manual settings and sophisticated scene modes.

There are some shortcomings of compact digital cameras also. Since sensitivity is calculated through ISO, the ISO range of a compact digital camera varies between ISO 50 and 400. SLR cameras, on the other hand, have ISO values in the range of 100 to1600. This makes the compact digital cameras less sensitive than digital SLR cameras.

There is much advancement in compact digital cameras, as compare to the digital SLR camera. If you are looking to purchase a compact digital camera your best bet is to figure out your needs after looking at the pros and cons for each type of camera.

You got your first digital camera. It is exciting. I’ll bet you are ready to run out and start taking photographs. Before you do, you may want to seek out some tips and advice on how to use your digital camera. Of course, the first rule of thumb is going to be to practice, but there are a few things you should know to help keep you on track with digital photography.

It is very natural to make beginners’ mistakes when using a digital camera. You could waste a lot of shots. Instead, why not read a few tips on digital photography to make your transition into digital photography less difficult. It will eliminate a lot of trial and error.

One of the most common mistakes beginners make is by trying to capture too many images in one photograph. This creates an unfocused, jumbled up mess. When you add too many images to a photo, there are too many subjects to allow the viewer to focus on just one. It’s difficult to look at pictures like this. The pictures create confusion rather than defining a moment or capturing scenery.

Beginners have a difficult time learning to take good pictures when they frame their shots. Either they know of no other way to photograph than placing the person in the center, or in their attempt to be creative they may cut something important out of the picture. Learning to frame your photos will make your pictures much more appealing.

Try to learn photography composition techniques. One of the biggest mistakes made by beginners is shifting the subject of the photo too far to the left or too far to the right. A photo with the subject in the center can be boring because it lacks interest. This is such a common style of photography many find it boring.

It is difficult for beginners to create artistic and focused photographs. You don’t have to place your subject in the center. Your goal should be to create photographs that look good from any angle or any side of the picture.

Digital photography beginners make another common mistake. They start taking pictures without knowing anything about the camera. Learn to use your camera properly to avoid blurry, overexposed or underexposed photos.

We have all played the role of photographer at some time. Most everyone takes photographs as a memento of special events, birthday parties, or family reunions. In the process, whether you realized it or not, you had to compose a photograph. That is, you had to bring the subject of the picture into the frame with other elements in the environment to capture the photograph. The ability to compose a photograph comes naturally for some; others of us really have to work at it.

Two important first steps for beginners are to learn how to compose photographs and learn to improve technical skills. Photography is a grand mixture of art and skill. If you lack in either artistry or skill it will be reflected in your photos.

One aspect of taking good photos with a digital camera is knowing where to stand. You have to develop an eye for which angle will take the best picture and where to place your subject in the frame. The smallest change can change a photo that would have been a mess into a masterpiece.

It seems that all new photographers think the subject must be centered in the frame. This seems logical, but isn’t always the best way to capture your subject. Add new dynamics to your photography by following the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds is simply a concept photographers use to compose better photographs. All you have to do is divide the frame into three parts both horizontally and vertically. Place the subject of your photograph on one of the intersections and this should provide a dynamic and interesting layout for your photo. One important thing to remember is that the rule of thirds will not work for every photo you take.

Improve your basic knowledge of your camera and technical skills will also help improve your photos. The more you know about your camera and how to use it properly, the more creative and flexible you can be with your photography. By all means, one of the first things you need to learn is how to focus your shots. There is nothing that can be done to improve an unfocused photograph, the moment and the photo is gone forever. Make learning focus a priority.

Under exposing and over exposing are two very common mistakes. Exposure will depend on the lighting conditions and the ambiance you are trying to capture. The best way to learn this skill is to practice by taking pictures. One thing you will learn, for example, is when to use a flash. A flash is good for close shots, but if you are more than 20 feet away the flash will do you no good. Longer exposure time, using a tripod, is a good way to take pictures of distant objects.

The key to learning photography is to take lots of pictures. Practice. Practice. Practice is the key. The more time you devote to photography, the more improvement you will see in your photography skills.

Do you, like so many of us, have a large collection of photographs built up over the years? If so then these probably represent a lot of happy memories for you – friends, family, social events, happy occasions and notable events throughout your life.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that you could have collected hundreds – maybe thousands, of photos over a period of time. It’s a sad fact that you probably only have a fraction of these out on display.

No doubt you have a few of your personal favourites displayed in picture frames around your house. Perhaps you’ve already got a few on your desk at work. Some others might be mounted in photo albums – you probably look at these once in a blue moon, when the fancy takes you.

The biggest portion of your photograph collection – your cherished memories – will, unfortunately, be stuffed out of sight in envelopes, old shoe boxes and biscuit tins. They could be up in the loft, in the storage space under the stairs, out in the garage or crammed into a drawer. One thing’s for sure – you hardly ever see them. Neither does anybody else.

The trouble is, even if you cover every wall in your house with picture frames, even if you load every horizontal surface, shelf and table top with frames, there simply isn’t enough room to put all your photos on display. It’s a common problem.

Thankfully, there is a very simple solution – digital photo frames. These can store and display hundreds of photos on a single frame, either in the frame’s own onboard memory or using an independent memory card. More importantly, they have the ability to cycle through the stored images in a slide show so that all of your photos can be seen using a single frame only. Of course, you can, should you wish, show a single image. You can always modify it manually whenever you crave a bit of variety.

If your pictures were taken with a digital camera then it’s a simple matter to display them using a digital frame. If you have physical, printed photos then you will require to scan them into a suitable digital image format. This is very easy, it’s as simple as using a photocopier. Some of the latest digital picture frames even have a scanner built into them to make this process easy for you.

There you have it – digital photo frames represent superb value for money. There’s a wide variety of prices depending upon size and specification – but a lot of them cost no more than a conventional frame. They are very easy to use and they give you a great way to get a lot more of your photos on display. So if your happy memories are gathering dust and are out of sight and out of mind, then maybe you should check them out sometime soon.

Digital photo frames are becoming more and more popular, and it’s not hard to understand why. They have much more functionality than cpnventional frames which are only able to display one picture at a time and – when you think about the expense of printing out hard copies of photographs – traditional static frames look like a more expensive option.

Many digital frames integrate video, audio, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and additional features may well be included. All digital frames allow you to create your own slideshows, normally with transitions, which will let you display all your photos using one single frame. On a cost per photograph displayed basis, digital frames are quite a bit more economical than conventional ones.

And, sticking with the subject of cost, the LCD technology used by these frames is coming down in cost which means that digital frames are now on sale at very affordable prices. However, before you dash out and buy one, here are a few pointers that you might wish to consider:

Choose A Frame To Suit The User
A large percentage of digital photo frames are selected as gifts, often for elderly relatives who might enjoy seeing photos of their children and grandchildren. Some digital frames have extra features such as full web browsers, internet radio, text news feeds, Wi-Fi etc. Apart from increasing functionality, these high end features can also mean that the user interface is more complicated – and quite possibly more confusing. Obviously these extra functions also lead to a significantly higher ticket price.

So, if your target gift recipient is simply interested in viewing pictures, you may be better to opt for a more basic frame which will not only save you money but be more likely to be used on a regular basis. More technologically aware users may like web enabled features of course.

Don’t Forget: Brand Name May Not Be A Guarantee Of Quality
You would probably be surprised at the poor quality images displayed by some of the base level models manufactured by some extremely well known household names. On the other hand, you would probably be surprised (for different reasons) at the quality of some lesser known brand names. Check out reviews – or see the frame in operation prior to buying.

Choose The Correct Resolution
The most frequently selected frame size is seven inches. It’s a good compromise between size and cost – and it also corresponds with a typical conventional frame or photograph size. It’s what you might expect to see in other words.

With a frame of this size you probably need a resolution of no less than 640 X 480 pixels. Anything less than this will give you blocky, pixelated, images. There’s no point in saving cash if the quality of the picture is too poor for your intended use.

Choose The Correct Aspect Ratio
Digital photo frames generally come in two aspect ratios; 4:3 and 15:9. Most digital cameras produce digital images in 4:3 ratio so a frame with this aspect will be the best for displaying your images. If you go for a 15:9 frame then the top and bottom of your images will be cropped so as to fit on the screen. Alternatively you can manually edit your images before displaying them and crop them as you wish.

The Image May Not Be The Total Picture
Top quality image reproduction is important but you might have further considerations that require to be taken into account. Ease of use and functionality might also be important items for you. The control system and user interface ease of use can differ widely from one frame to another and you might wish to consider that prior to making your final selection. Integrated Wi-Fi, which allows you to transfer pictures via your home wireless network, may also be something that you would consider desirable. If you are technically minded then you could think about setting up a frame at your parent’s home which has the facility to download images from file sharing websites. You might just want something as simple as a timer which turns the frame off when not in use or a frame which has its own internal battery for use when on the road perhaps.

These are only a few suggestions for you. Think about the end user and the probable application and take a little time to go over your options and you’ll easily manage to find a good, value for money, frame which will display your photos in a cost effective manner for many years to come.
