An amateur photographer has a difficult time deciding which camera to buy, the Nikon D90 or the upcoming Nikon D5000? The former has already wowed many photographers with its superb features. But many claim the D5000 would be much better.

Here is the predicament of the troubled photographer: Would you buy the D() right now or wait until the first week of May for the D5000? Read on to know what other enthusiasts say about this camera:

Cloudy: Definitely, the D90 is way better compared to the D5000. You have to buy it now before the price shoots up. I am warning you, the D90 price is shooting up real fast.

hockey_guy: If the D5000 maintains its $799 selling price, I must say that the D90 features are worth the extra dollars. Additionally, the D90 has the sub command dial feature, which is very important particularly when you shoot manually.

Mark Stein: It appears that the D5000 is an entry-level camera; the D90, on the other hand, is suited for more serious enthusiast photographers. The D5000 is only a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than a D90. Considering the price and specs, the D90 is a better camera for a bit more dollars.

Skittles: The D90 screen (3-in 920 HD video) is a winner. What more could you ask for?

Happypup: The Nikon D5000 is an upcoming camera, so many people are all hyped up about this baby. If you really need to get a DSLR now, then but the Nikon D90. But if you do not need one at the moment. Wait a bit and know when the camera comes out, check if there are problems, and make a wise decision a month after the release of the camera.

Markinvictoria: I have had my D90 for 2 days now. Reading the D5000 features, I am happy I bought the D90. I am happy with the built in focus motor, commander mode, high resolution LCD, etc.

The Nikon D90 is perhaps the best DSLR camera model out there. This professional and consumer (prosumer) model designed as a replacement to the also excellent Nikon D80.

The Nikon D90 price is all worth it. The camera sells for $1000 in the US (body only) and around $1300 with the body and the Nikkor AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR.

In general, the Nikon D90 is a competent camera. At its current selling price, this excellent camera provides great value for every photographer in the hunt for the perfect photo. It sports the attest and updated features every Nikon fan will surely love.

So what are the strongest points of the Nikon D90? Well, all I can say is that this baby deserves all the hypes it gets. Since Nikon’s latest camera has more than 60 years of constant innovation in its back, it offers more attractive features than any other cameras to date.

What I like most about this camera is that it allows you to record HD movies. Photographers nowadays are widening their horizons, and experimenting with moving pictures is one way to test the waters.

I have nothing bad to say about the D90 in terms of ergonomics. The Nikon D90 is solid, tight, strong, and perfect with the 18-105 VR lens. The Nikon D90 is always ready to shoot, and it does it fast.

I also like the direct access buttons, which is super easy to use. The lens is a big surprise. But it is pretty clear and sharp, giving me superior results than the previous 18-55 VR.

I have been using the D90 in various lighting conditions, and it has never let me down with the results. Overall, I suggest you buy Nikon D90 if you are looking for an excellent DSLR camera.

If you do not have a $1,500 but have $1000 for a Nikon DSLR camera, then get the Nikon D90. Currently, the Nikon D90 price is between $1,000 and $1,300 in Amazon. Now is perhaps the best time to buy Nikon D90.

What about the D40 and D60?

If you want to improve your shooting skills, get a Nikon D90 instead of the Nikon D60 and Nikon D80. This DSLR sports some really cool additional features. For example, it features a depth-of-field preview button.

Another good reason got buying a Nikon D90 is that it makes great photos in almost every picture-taking situation. The DSLR’s Auto ADR feature makes this possible; it is on by default.

What about the Nikon D80?

The Nikon D80 is much more costly than the Nikon D90, but this does not mean that it has superior quality and performance. Although cheaper, the D90 is a great upgrade. Here are some upgrades of the D90: 3-inch LCD with higher resolution, 2 extra MP, choice to get a VR 18-105mm kit lens, and 1 stop extra ISO up to 6400.

What about the D300 and D700?

The Nikon D700 and Nikon D300 are much tougher babies than the Nikon D90. They are also faster if you do sports or event photography. The funny thing is, The Nikon D90 is just as great as the Nikon D700 and Nikon D300 when it comes to photo quality in good light.

Paying more for a Nikon D300, Nikon D700, or Nikon D3 will give you faster frame rates and focus and better durability, but that is it. The D90 has the same terrific LCD and image quality as other Nikon cameras.

Great features

The D90 has many selling points that give you value for your money. One of the positive points is that this DSLR camera can shoot and record HD videos. The Nikon D90 comes with an ergonomic handles; the flash metering is great and the camera also eliminates the faulty metering of the D40 and the D80.

If you are looking for a new DSLR with video, and you cannot decide between the Canon T1i (500D) and Nikon D90, then you may find this spec-comparison article helpful. Here are some of the main differences between the Nikon D90 and the Canon T1i:

ISO boost capability

The Nikon D90 has lesser ISO boost capability than the Canon T1i, so it looks like that the latter is the clear winner in this aspect. However, although the Canon T1i’s 12,800 ISO looks good from a marketing perspective, the reality is that it makes poor results.

The Canon T1i has higher resolution sensor

The Canon T1i features a 15.1MP sensor, while the Nikon D90 sports a 12.3MP sensor. However, there are many disadvantages associated with higher resolution sensors. For one, you will want to invest in a high-end quality lens to back the sensor’s increased resolution capability.

The Canon T1i is better in recording HD videos

The Canon T1i has better HD video recording capabilities than the Nikon D90’s D-Movie mode. The Canon T1i design is appropriate for recording HD movies. The camera offers the option of 720p HD video shooting at 30 frames per second, with up to 18 minutes of recording time.

The Nikon D90 is much faster and quieter

The Nikon D90 enables you to capture decisive moments more easily. This DSLR has a continuous shooting rate of 4.5 fps compared to its rival’s 3.4 fps. Additionally, the Nikon D90 has a shutter mechanism with less noise, allowing you take great photos.

The D90 kit lens is superior to the T1i kit lens

The Nikon D90’s Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm VR zoom provides great performance and excellent photo quality. The Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS zoom, on the other hand, appears to be more subject to lens flare. Moreover, it looks like that the Canon kit lens does not look sharp.

The DSLR camera market is like an exciting boxing match. Everybody wants to win and to emerge a victor, camera manufacturers aim for a killer left hook. Read on for the Nikon D90 review.

Currently, the World Champion DSLR Title Belt belongs to the Nikon D90. Many people around the world have instantly become fans, with the D90’s “feature-packed fistful of photo fury” as one reviewer puts it. Read on to see how other people view the D90:

Tbone, Ohio

I am very happy with the D90. It captures excellent images in automatic setting; you will be very happy if you need to be imaginative with the manual settings. The video mode is a nice feature as well. While the camera does not feature an auto focus for the video mode, it comes out still nice.

Frantisek Dano from Naples, FL

The Nikon D90 is one great piece of technology; the 18-105mm lens is a great start. I am utilizing the factory settings for around 95% of capturing. When you put your photos on the Internet, you will not notice the differences between the D90 and pro cameras.

The camera’s controls are very easy to learn. Even an amateur can capture great photos from the very beginning. It is my new hobby and pet.

Isaac Ramirez (Costa Rica)

The DSLR really went beyond all my expectations about a digital SLR. The D90 offers a lot of controls, many customizations, ease of use, real freedom for imagination on non-auto modes, and smart focusing mechanism; they are designed to help you compose, focus, and frame the shot in the best way. My best buy ever!

A. Elshamaa, Los Angeles

I have done extensive research before getting myself the latest Nikon D90 and I am happy to say that it does not disappoint. I bought this camera more than 6 months ago and the image output is just superb. I am an amateur photographer, but you do not have to be a pro to use it.

If you cannot shell out $1500 for a DSLR but willing to spend more than $1000, then buy the excellent Nikon D90. You can get this unit for $1000 in the US for the body only and for $1300 with the body and the Nikkor AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. If you are planning to get a Nikon D90, now is the right time.

I really like the Nikon D90 when it comes to its ergonomic features. It is strong, tight, and goes well with the Nikkor 18-105 VR lens. I love the fact that it is always ready and shoots very fast.

The Nikon D90 features direct access buttons that are incredibly easy to use. What is more, buy Nikon D90 if you want to shoot HD videos, which is a great deal. If you would like to broaden your horizons, you can test the waters by exploring and experimenting with moving pictures.

Changing the lenses, shutter speeds, and exposures using this camera is simple and easy. Also, you can make beautiful effects that are not possible when you use a regular video camera. In terms of image quality, you will not regret buying a D90.

You will not regret buying this DSLR. The light metering is also fine and looks accurate in almost all cases. I have been using the D90 in various lighting conditions, and it has never shocked or let me down with the results.

If you are an enthusiast of action photography, such as sports or adventure, then buy Nikon D90 camera. I am betting you will like the camera’s ultra-fast autofocus. The AF rises to new heights and leverages 9 focus points in an accurate array.

You will also love the fact that you can shoot continuously at 4.5 fps. There are many more reasons to buy Nikon D90 gear, but I cannot list them all here because of space limitations.

In general, the Nikon D90 deserves all the raves it gets from consumer reviewers. I will end all this raving by saying that the D90 is the best of its kind today.

The Nikon D90 is one incredible camera. I must say that it is the best DX format DSLR in the market today. Read on for the Nikon D90 review.

The D90 is packed with the coolest features, upgrading some from the Nikon D300 and Nikon D80. The D300 and D80 are great, but I will choose the D90 anytime.

What floored is that the D90 costs much less than the D300, D80, and D3. Well, this is what happens in the DSLR world: the latest devices are usually better compared to their predecessors, for less cost.

If you are contemplating to get a Nikon D300, I suggest you buy the D90 instead. I have been taking photos using this camera for two months now, and I must say that it has not disappointed me yet. I doubt my D90 will ever disappoint me.

The Nikon D90 has a better photo quality compared to the D300 and D80, with many cool features loaded in a compact and light plastic package. In terms of ease of use, the D90 does not disappoint. Its simplicity enables you to capture the most excellent photos.

It is not a surprise why Nikon’s latest DSLR delivers and goes beyond expectations. For one, the Nikon D90 is backed by over 60 years of constant innovation and development. As a result, it offers more clever features.

Here are some highlights: 12.3 MP DX-format CMOS imaging sensor; continuous shooting as fast as 4.5 frames-per-second; and HD movie mode (the world’s first). The D90 also features a 3-inch super-density LCD monitor and low-noise ISO sensitivity.

The D90 also sports a 1-button Live View and a built-in image sensor cleaning. It features in-camera Image Editing, all-inclusive exposure control, and high precision and durable shutter.

Many will agree if I say that the Nikon D90 is one extraordinary DSLR. In general, camera reviewers online give the D90 a highly recommended rating.

At first look, the Nikon D90 camera looks like the D80. When I got my D90 at last, I had to check the badge twice just to ensure I got the right DSLR.

Because the D90 appears so similar to its predecessor, it seems at first glance that it is one of those subdued incremental upgrades. Wrong. Look more closely and you will see that the D90 offers cool features that may excite Nikon fans.

Optical viewfinder

The D90 viewfinder, like the Nikon D80 viewfinder, sports an AF system (11-point) in a diamond arrangement. Still goes by the name of Multi-Cam 1000, like on the D80, the D90′s AF engine has been improved to include three-dimensional focus tracking. It also features Face Detection, which biases autofocus points in favor of the eyes instead of the nose and other objects in a scene.

Live view features

Using other Nikon DSLRs, you need to turn the Drive Mode face to Lv, then you must depress the shutter button to lock the mirror. This is barely instinctive, but the D90 features a live view button that you can find at the back of the camera. This live view button is within reach of the thumb.

Scene recognition system

Nikon has been developing the scene recognition system for years; they are now harvesting the fruit of their efforts. Their latest models have seen improvements to the system. Face recognition comes with the Nikon D90.

The bottom line

Owners of the nice D80 will definitely drool over the D90. Building on the potency of its exceptional predecessor, the D90 has an awful lot going for it. This latest model from Nikon updates several specs and sports many new features over the D80.

Overall, the D90 is an amazing DSLR offering from Nikon. Highly recommended.

The Nikon D90 is a great mid-range DSLR camera. Here are the basic Nikon D90 accessories you may need for your camera:

I recommend that you get the Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom Lens for your camera. If you can afford top-class and more expensive lens, go for the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G AF-S. For wide angle lens, the Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX (IF) is a great buy.

For the flash, get the compact Speedlight SB-600, which features great functionality. The LCD is easy to view and has six buttons that make the external flash’s operation simpler. These buttons are backlit and are simple to understand.

For the filters, go for circular polarizers, which add flavor to the images. They cut polarized lights, which hit on the camera lenses. They can also remove unnecessary reflections from non-metallic surfaces like water or glass.

One of the most essential Nikon D90 accessories is the Nikon EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery. Ensure optimum rechargeable battery life by using the regular complete charge of a battery before recharging it. A freshly charged extra battery allows this, offering continuous photography.

What SDHC/SD memory card should you get for the D90 camera? Consider getting Kingston, SanDisk, or Lexar. Ideally, get 2 8G cards for a better HD video recording.

A good bag for your Nikon D90 is the CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case. This bag has the appearance and looks of the real and soft glove leather, which you can buy for great price. You may also want to buy the attractive Lowepro Slingshot 200 All Weather Backpack in case you want a backpack, but go for the Lowepro Rezo 170AW in case you need a shoulder bag.

For the tripods, get the Manfrotto 190XPROB 3 Section Aluminum Pro Tripod or the Manfrotto 322RC2. Both tripods are great, receiving favorable reviews on Amazon. The 322RC2 and the 190XPROB are great tripods for your Nikon D90.

Finally, get the Wireless Remote Control ML-L3; it is the right remote control for your D90. What is great about this sleek remote control is that you can directly trigger the shutter without disturbing your camera. This remote control is perfect for difficult to approach subjects or for minimizing the vibrations.
