A wedding is a wonderful occasion, both for the happy couple, and their friends and family. When you look at the amount of expense that goes into that one day, however, you may think it causes more misery financially than it does happiness on the day itself. Last year, the average US couple spent $20k on their wedding, with the average in the UK being far higher at a whopping £20k, or $38k. That’s probably the most expensive day you’ll ever have (unless you one day throw a winning lottery ticket in the wash). And with the credit crunch showing no signs of easing, prospective brides and grooms are actively looking for ways to cut costs without spoiling the magic of their special day. Couples are cutting down guest lists, asking for friends and family to help out instead of hiring caterers, DJs and videographers, and brides are increasingly considering pre-worn wedding dresses. Yet the photography is one area few are prepared to compromise on, and with good reason. Your wedding pictures are one of the few lasting memories you have from that all too fleeting day, and of course it’s something you’d want done perfectly and in style. I’ve put together my 5 top tips for how to find a fantastic wedding photographer without breaking the bank.

1. Making the best of Google

The majority of modern wedding photographers have their own websites, and one of the most common ways of finding them is via search engines like Google. However with competition being so fierce it’s not hard for prospective brides and grooms to miss out on some really special and talented photographers by not looking far enough when searching. Do not make the mistake of not going beyond the first page of results or the top few sponsored links in Google. Make sure you spend time going deep into the search results and coming up with a shortlist of photographers in your budget so you can really compare a range of styles and options. Additionally use specialist search terms like “black and white”, “reportage”, etc, as well as looking for wedding photographers from other towns within a couple of hundred miles from you, as most are happy to travel. For example for my wedding I not only searched for “Wedding Photographer in Brighton” – we also looked at other surrounding areas such as Kent, Hampshire, London and Surrey.

2. Watch Out for Hidden Costs

Gone are the days when your wedding photographer had to develop their own prints in a darkroom – its all digital now. Which means that the wedding photographer prices are a lot more simple now too. So I’m amazed that so many photographers still charge their customers an extra fee for each print on top of the booking! Always look for photographers willing to give you all the images from the day on CD. That way you can get prints done at a fraction of the cost at your local photo printing lab.

3. Albums and Extras: Do It Yourself!

With digital photography the era of the traditional wedding photo album has passed. Today you have stylish wedding photography books are a big hit with most couples – but the problem is if you go through your photographer these will often cost you an arm and a leg. However if you can spare the time and energy, it’s possible to design and create very stylish photobooks yourself, and get them printed at a relatively tiny cost. Ditto when it comes to canvas prints or blow up posters really – as long as you have high quality original image files from your photographer, you can pretty much do it all yourself!

4. Be Wary of Wedding Photography Scams

I have heard so many stories of unfortunate couples who have been taken in by unscrupulous con artists posing as wedding photographers. These swindlers will poach couples with cheap prices and slick sales pitches, receive their deposits or even full booking payments and then never be heard from again. It breaks my heart to hear about this sort of thing. The thing is, if you’re vigilant they’re pretty easy to spot and avoid. Firstly, ensure that any payment of deposits or fees are done via bank transfer – its the most secure method of payment, and can be traced and reversed in the event of a problem. And be sure to get a proper contract from the photographer which makes clear what you are getting and what you are paying for – this provides protection to the couple. Finally, and probably most importantly, the phrase “constant vigilance” applies here – go and visit the photographer before money changes hands, make sure you see examples of their work and ask questions about how everything will work – a good photographer will put your fears to rest.

5. Dont be Overzealous in Your Moneysaving Crusade!

Now this one may sound counter-intuitive when it comes to ‘credit crunch weddings’ but I feel it’s an important one. In your quest to cut your wedding budget don’t go too far! It’s worth repeating that out of all the services you pay for on your wedding day, the photography is quite possibly the most important to get right. There are hundreds of amateur and inexperienced ‘photographers’ out there who are trying their luck as a side income. Judging from their prices alone you’d think you’ve struck gold. But sometimes the biggest bargains can be found by going up one price point. Remember that if you don’t look at your photographer’s work and go “wow” what is the point in spending all that money on a professional?

Being a wedding photographer on the bride and grooms big day is a huge responsibility. Heres some tips on making it go well.

1) Make sure you have a pre-defined list of pictures you are going to take. Check out the location ibeforehand and know where you want to position people for the best shots. Involve the bride and groom and ask their opinions on where they might like their photos taken and in what syle.

2) Speak to the best man. Weddings can deviate from the pre-agreed arrangements and its important therefore to have a point of contact with the best man or wedding co-ordinator to help arrange groups and keep things in order. The last thing you should do is ask the bride and groom to help round people up for group shots.

3) Be prepared, very prepared. So much can go wrong so make sure you have a spare camera, batteries, SD cards etc. Request a detailed itinerary from the best man and attend any rehearsals.

4) Remember the little things. Intimate pictures of the rings, order of service, flowers etc can often be as powerful and appreciated as the typical portrait shots.

5) Pre plan the group shots. It can be hard to take shot of a large group of people. Know in advance where and how this will be done e.g. take ladders if need be.

6) Be creative. It can be all too easy to take the expected portrait and group shots and the end results can be boring photos. Take informal shots, mix with the wedding guests and be alert for interesting opportunities that present themselves.

7) Dont automatically delete shots that are not perfect. With digital cameras the temptation exists to delete everything that wasnt a perfect shot. Very often you may be deleting some of the most interesting pictures.

Consider using an additional photographer. This can take the pressure off and sometimes 2 different perspectives will make for a better set of results.

9) Perfect shooting in different lighting conditions. You may be shooting in a dark church where flash photography isn’t allowed or at a reception room that has no natural light. Make sure you know how to bounce a flash or diffuse it to get great results.

10) Be confident. At some point in the day you will be running the show and must be able to communicate effectively and calmly with people. Being shy isnt an option.

A hundred years ago when a woman was pregnant, it was called a confinement. Supposedly it was improper to appear pregnant in public. Yet birth and girth are a part of life and nothing to be ashamed of. Indeed, many future mothers are opting to record the special time with pictures. Photographers are even specializing in such pictures. But whether or not you have such pictures done professionally, these suggestions will still be helpful.

First, timing is everything. If you are going to hire a professional photographer to do it right, then you will probably want to schedule the appointment for about the 30th week. At that time, the belly is rounded and protruding enough to highlight the unique event.

Point two, try some creativity. Take some outside shots if the weather is warm. Indoor photos are best without a flash for the shadows highlight the subject, the belly! If the lighting is not enough, then stand by a window or accent the belly with artificial lighting.

Include the whole family in some shots. After all, older siblings are part of the family. They could all be touching Mom’s abdomen or frame her in the middle of the group. Children like to act up and get attention so, if you hire a photographer, be sure they are good at getting the kids to cooperate, to be serious but not too serious.

If you are going to cover your abdomen, wear tight clothing, like something that fit six months ago. Such will highlight the changes that have taken place during these thirty weeks. Some women want their belly bare in the picture. Just don’t wear something that would make you embarrassed after the birth.

When planning the picture, look forward and look around. First, look around to be sure that your background is what you want. If something is there you don’t want recorded, either move to a different location or cover it with a sheet.

Secondly, look ahead. It may be the person who cherishes this picture the most in years to come is the one in the womb. Therefore, plan the picture with him or her in mind. It is the earliest shot of his hidden presence.

The final bit of advice is to choose a good photographer wisely. Yes, you could do it yourself, but since this child will only be 30 weeks old one time, you will probably want the occasion recorded professionally. Find a photographer who is experienced in taking maternity photography and who has the equipment to do it right. Ask friends whom they will recommend. Go in and chat with them to see if you are comfortable working with them. When all is in order, you will be glad you went to the trouble and expense to record this very special time.

When most couples plan their wedding day they take a lot of things into consideration. They think about coordinating the date for vacation times. Or they coordinate the day on what is best maybe for family to make it into town. Or they make plans according to the availability of the church or restaurant.

But one of the biggest things they fail to plan for on the wedding day is the photographer. This is no small issue. And I am not just saying it because I am a wedding photographer.

No planning the wedding day with the wedding photographer in mind could mean all the difference in the world. Especially when you consider the pictures are what is going to be captured for a lifetime.

What are some of the factors when you start planning with the photographer in mind. The date and time.

First let’s start thinking about the time. How many people want their photographer to rush through the photos? I am pretty confident most couples will not agree to that.

Well without even thinking about your photographer, a lot of times couples will do just that. The couple or family basically rush the photographer to try and take all the pictures.

How so you say? Well a lot of times, the couple will schedule the ceremony for let’s say 1-2 pm. With the reception beginning at 2:30. How many photos can the photographer really take with only half an hour to work with? Not that many.

Worse thing to consider, what if he does manage to take all the photos? Do you think they will be of the best quality when the shots are rushed? Of course not.

So plan the times for the wedding and the reception with enough space in between to take all the photos.

The second factor to consider when planning is to check your photographer’s availability.

Most probably don’t realize this, but most good photographers will be booked months in advance. If you do deal with a large photo company, they very well could have several photographers on staff.

Well without considering your photographers availability on the wedding day could turn into a disaster. Because when you reserve that special day, without making sure your photographer is available, come wedding day you might get a shock when you find somebody totally different.

This can happen when dealing with a large photographer company. You might not realize they have plenty of photographers on staff, and if the photographer you fell in love with is booked, unless you specifically ask, the company might not tell you. When the wedding day comes, a second rate photographer or worse yet, they might outsource the work and somebody else will show up.

Be prepared that you don’t let something like this happen.Making plans for your wedding day is special. Be sure that you also plan it thinking about your wedding photographer.

There’s nothing worse than terrible shots or no shots of one of the most momentous events in a person’s life. A wedding may very well be made in heaven but trouble lurks in the details. Skip some important points and you can wish you were in the trashcan with the rubber chicken and leathery lettuce.

Here are some tips to help you negotiate this photographic minefield.

Hire a professional.
No? Don’t want to do that? You think Uncle George can do it fine on the cheap? Save a few bucks and spread the joy around? Then read on, reckless fool…

Be prepared.
Emotionally, spiritually, intellectually and photographically. You will need more than just a strong heart and nerves of steel. You’ll need extra memory sticks, extra batteries, a flash outfit, a tripod and a zoom/wide-angle lens. You’ll also need a decent photo editing program to produce the finished product in an acceptable form.

Have an assistant or a helper.
You should have lots of stuff to carry around, and you need someone who will watch your gear when you’re busy. Get a person to help you. It’s also good to have someone relatively sane to talk to.

ALWAYS shoot for the bride.
Men aren’t interested in photos of themselves. Well, that’s a generality. 99.9% of men don’t care. Usually the only time a man looks at a wedding picture under his own volition is just after the divorce with a drink in the other hand.

Get a list of wanted shots.
Don’t go into this blind. Find out what shots the happy couple expect and try to oblige. Weddings have about 4 phases: getting dressed, the ceremony, after the ceremony (relaxed shots with the new couple), the reception including the cake and groups of guests. Take your lead from the bride not the juiced up guests at the reception.

Shoot a lot.
This is good advice for any photography. At a wedding you’re dealing with human nature at its most confused. Who can really tell what shots will be the big sellers? Just cover everything (even the speeches) and shoot everything three times and be safe.

Get the groups.
Groups are important but watch out here because semi-inebriated guests will want to be photographed with pot-plants, the foxy waitress, each other, maybe the bride and groom, and towards the end of the evening fascinating cloud formations. Get the bride to tell you who should be in the groups. Stay with her.

Get the proofs to the bride as fast as you can.
It is not only great service, it great business as well. Happiness and the vows of matrimony can be fleeting. Get your wedding photo bill in before the first fight if possible. Definitely before the divorce.

Be a professional. Weddings can be scary things.
They’re all about love, sex, eating and drinking. Passions and confusions can be rampant. Get your shots first and party later if anyone is left to party with. If you find yourself at the end alone with your camera, at least you can console yourself that you completed your mission.

Do your own quality control before you submit the proofs.
Your reputation can be destroyed by a handful of misaimed shots of the bride or her friends. People often remember that one shot where the matron of honor looked as if she was zonked when it was just an untimely blink. If it sucks delete it. Better safe than sorry.

A cheap camera is sufficient to record most of the important events in our lives. But once in a lifetime events such as weddings deserve the extra expense of filming it right. Yet look in the yellow pages and you can see there are plenty of choices available. Follow these seven principles in choosing a photographer and you probably won’t be disappointed with the results.

1. Availability. If you are wealthy, you may be able to hire the best New York photographer to capture your California wedding. However, most people will want to hire someone more locally, someone whose transportation costs will be more reasonable. For example, a couple in Virginia would choose someone specializing in Virginia Beach wedding photography. Also, since photographers are especially busy on Saturdays, will he/she be available on your big day?

2. Skill. What is the reputation of the photographer? Do you have testimonials available? Can you view samples of their work? After all, photographing a wedding is more than just clicking and shooting. They need good equipment and skill. What will be the pixel range of the digital pictures? The more pixels, in general, the larger the file size but also the better the resolution. When enlarged they will still have the same clarity.

3. Personality. What would it be like to work with them? Are they pushy, trying to get you to choose their most expensive package, or do they present the options and let you decide? Would they tend to take over or fit in? How are they in working with children?

4. Price. Of course, though the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. now is over $20,000, few are willing to put most of that into the pictures. Is the photographer reasonable in comparison with others in the area? Is their price of what you want within the budget of your wedding?

5. Service. How quickly are the pictures available? Some will even display the wedding pictures during the reception. That is a nice touch. How quickly can prints be made? How available will they be to others on the web or on CD, and how soon?

6. Options. Good photographers will have a wide variety of options to choose from. Do you want pictures taken during the rehearsal? Are the main pictures going to be taken before or after the ceremony? Do they have creative suggestions on making it special? Will the pictures be printable by others in the family off the webpage?

7. Integrity. Does the photographer deliver on the promises made? Is the photographer known for being on time and at the right place where they are expected? Are all the parts of the package you choose delivered as promised? Do they have other things planned that day or will they be there as long as you expect them to be?

A wedding is too important of an event to let it pass with only an amateur photographer recording it. As you plan the big day in your lives, consider these principles so that not a single precious moment is forgotten. And if you’re in the area for Virginia Beach photography, look up Expressions Photography. Their friendly and professional expertise will capture all the memories of your special day.

More Than Pictures – Memories

When you are hired to be the main photographer for a portrait event it is quite an honor. For a professional photographer, we can sometimes just see it as another “gig”. But it pays to look at the event through the eyes of the wedding party, the parents, the siblings, the groom and above all the bride. For the bride especially, there is nothing run of the mill about this day. Everything is personal and getting the best possible photos of this important day could not be more personal and important to her and her family and her groom as well.

If you’re thinking of taking the direction into or setting out on building your photography business to include wedding photography, you should plan to approach this task much differently than any other form of photography. You are doing a lot more than taking a few snapshots of an event. You are as much an integral part of the ceremony and the significance of that day for this bride and this groom as the minister or perhaps even many of the wedding guests.

So what can you do to make sure the wedding albums you create capture not only the events of this day but the emotions and the spiritual importance of it as well? The key is to know the hearts and minds of the people who are involved in the event. That means, get involved early and be involved often.

For most weddings, the planning process starts very soon. If you get hired to be the wedding photographer, it is not too early to meet the maid of honor that early also. To be a skilled wedding photographer, you should also have a bit of the investigative journalist, the amateur psychologist and the psychic in you as well.

Your photographs will capture not only the images of the event but also the souls of the attendees. So get to know each of the key players individually. This certainly includes the bride and groom but a similar level of familiarity is appropriate for the wedding party, the parents of the bride and groom and their best friends too.

There are some subtle ways you can learn the hearts of these people so you can plan to get photographs that will be ones the each person will say, “I am saving that one forever.” Here are some suggestions…

. Get to know the colors of the wedding. But more than that, find out how the bride and significant decisions makers view colors. Watch how they dress and show them examples of wedding photographs and listen to their reactions. You can plan the how to stage your pictures accordingly.

. Every bride has that perfect romantic setting in their heart. If you can discover that hidden treasure, you may be able to frame a special wedding photo just to fit that dream. Perhaps she there is a public gardens in the city that has a fountain that she has loved since she was a child. If so you can make arrangements to have the wedding party meet out there when the lighting is just right in full dress and get some wedding photos that will be in her heart forever.

. Don’t forget the groom. Maybe he would love to have a fun photo showing him and the bride on his Harley. Or if he is a big sports fan, getting a photo dressed out in team regalia at some other time than the wedding can be a fun addition to the portfolio. And it will mean a lot to him too.

Knowing the people, their personalities and what makes them tick makes you a better photographer. Don’t get lazy and not keep up with details at every stage of planning. The key players will not only not resent your presence but they will see that you have the same commitment to making this day as special as it can be. And they will love the outcome and you will remain as much a part of this big day as the flowers and the chapel itself.

San Antonio Photography by Richard’s Photography – San Antonio,Texas

The wedding day will probably be one of the most important times that occur for a person’s life. Hours and hours go into all of the planning for the wedding. Probably all of the list of things to do in wedding planning are frustrating, stressful, and time consuming. That’s why it is crucial that your homework is done when trying to find good people for all the jobs. One of the critically important jobs will be for the photographer. From my experience as a San Diego wedding photographer I’ll show you it can be a few simple steps away.

Trying to find a wedding photographer is huge responsibility and job. There are several factors to consider when making this important selection. The photos that you take away from your wedding are going to be the most memorable keepsakes that you have. The photos will be all over your walls for the rest of yourlife. One of the important factors when trying to find a photographer is price. A lot of photographers will charge you a certain price for a specific lenght of time for the wedding. It is important to know what will be included with that price up front
price. When it comes to finding a wedding photographer, the biggest upside to pricing is there is a lot of competition. Remember, that a lot of photographers can and will negotiate their price a little bit to fit what you need.

Another thing to think about and consider when choosing is the experience a person may have. Is this their firs big wedding job, or have they done a few dozen or more? Their price may reflect how long they have been in business as well. Just because someone has a lot of experience doesn’t always mean they will be better. Sometimes the photographers that are just starting their careers and are trying to build a name will turn out to be excellent. The advantage of a person like that and going with them is you know they are going to give it their best. When you are trying to find a wedding photgrapher, you will find photographers of different levels of experience. Doing an interview with a photographer can give you a good sense of what they will be like to work with.

A final thing to think about when you prepare to make that decision is what kind of personality does the photographer have. Are they going to call all the shots and make all of the poses? Or are they going to let the bride and groom make some decisions? Another thing to think about is whether or not you want to be the one to make the important decisions on the photos. The bride and groom will have enough to think about the day of the wedding as it is. Take all of these things into account when considering which photographer to choose. If you do, you will have some wonderful photos to cherish the rest of your lives. Take it from me, your experienced San Diego photographer.

Being asked to take photos for a wedding is a huge responsibility. If you’ve been asked to do it as a favor, or have been asked to do it professionally, here are 5 tips to do to get the job done right.

This tips are coming from first hand experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. So whether you are seasoned pro, or a rank amateur, if you follow these tips, you will feel comfortable and not have to second guess yourself.Doing this you will be fully prepared come what may.

Our first tip is easy and that is to have the couple and maybe their families make a list of photos they want to take. With a day that can be as hectic and chaotic as a wedding day, doing this will help when you are trying to organize all the group and family shots later on in the day. You will love it and when you can just go down the list and get everything without leaving anything out by accident.

The second tip on our list is to not delete any shots. In this day and age of digital cameras, most photographers use them.Great as they are, they might tempt you to delete a shot they may like that you don’t since it is so easy to do. Don’t even look at the previews. What you think may be a great photo, can differ widely in what the couple considers a great photo. You know what, they might like all those un “professional” shots you take.

The third tip to make sure you do is taking candid shots.A good photographer isn’t one who just takes the standard basic shots, like family shots, typical wedding shots, or whatever is the usual. But they will also try and capture the emotions of the day through the shots of all the people that were there. And that includes some of the things that could go wrong, like a flower girl not making it all the way to the front, or the ring bearer dropping the rings.Every photo matters.

The fourth tip is which is often overlooked is to make sure you have several cameras and other equipment as backup.Do you even want to think of a moment like that of not having a working camera halfway through the wedding.Be prepared for anything that can go wrong.By being ready with extra equipment, you will avoid the uncomfortable time of not being able to take any more pictures of the wedding day with a broken camera.

Finally, practice your lighting as well. There can be a huge difference between the lighting inside the wedding and outside, so make sure to practice for all the different possible conditions. You should try and see if you can scout the locations for the big day and try and find the best spots to shoot as well as gauging the lighting needs.

Doing these 5 tips will help you immensely. It will prepare you for whatever might go wrong, it will prepare you for capturing what goes right, and it will prepare you to help contribute to this wonderful day by being the best photographer you can be. Take it from my years of experience as a San Diego photographer.

Wedding Photography – Why It Is One Of The More Critical Choices For Your Wedding

Wedding photography is one of the most important decisions that an engaged couple must make. While the dress, cake, flowers and other details are of course important, the wedding photography will capture the event for all time. When deciding on wedding photography, you need to make not only the all-important decision on which photographer to use, but will also need to decide what style of wedding photography you would like.

Engaged couples have more options now than ever before regarding styles of wedding photography. Photojournalistic wedding photography is a highly popular choice for today’s weddings, offering a much less stilted wedding album than the old formally posed shots. Black and white wedding photography is also very popular, adding an old-time romance to your wedding photos.

Contemporary wedding photography allows couples to customize their wedding photographs freely to match the feel of the wedding ceremony. The traditional posed wedding portrait is quite appropriate to the old-fashioned formal wedding. However, this is only one of a myriad of wedding styles from which couples now may choose. From jumping out of an airplane or exchanging vows on a roller coaster to highly themed custom ceremonies, weddings in general are much less standardized. It is only fitting that wedding photography should also change with the times.

Many who are on a budget worry that affordable wedding photography will not allow them to choose the style of photography that they most desire. In reality, photographers in all price ranges are starting to offer alternative styles of wedding photography in an effort to stay competitive in the rapidly changing market.

One of the first decisions that couples must make regarding wedding photography is whether to go with traditional film photography or the newer and increasingly popular digital wedding photography. Both styles have distinct pros and cons. If your wedding will be of a more traditional style, you may wish to follow tradition and select film photography. Film also provides a softer feel for certain styles of photography. The major disadvantage to film is the inability to preview the photographs immediately. While any professional photographer will be able to take excellent photos without the immediate feedback, couples whose wedding photography includes difficult action shots may feel more secure knowing that the photographer is able to preview and re-shoot photos as necessary.

Digital photography is the wave of the future. More and more photographers are starting to turn to digital photography as their preferred medium. Digital photography allows the photographer the freedom to experiment with tricky shots, as he or she will know immediately whether the shot was a success. It also allows the photographer to snap virtually limitless numbers of photos rather than being tied to a certain number of rolls for budgetary purposes.

Wedding photography has come a long way over the years. Now that more couples are in charge of designing their weddings from beginning to end, the role of the professional photographer has changed from one of the expert who orchestrated all the shots to a team member who works with the couple to achieve the right style of photos. Visit as many photography studios as you can. Narrow your choices down to the ones that offer you the most affordable wedding photography, and then narrow the decision down further by choosing the one that best fits your style.

One of the most challenging tasks a person can undertake is planning a wedding. What with time constraints and staying within the budget concerns, there are some couples prefer to leave a few of the of the more essential aspects completely out of their wedding completely. Photography should not be one of them. In this article, we will cover several basic themes on wedding photography that all couples should know while planning their extraordinary day.

How far in advance should I book a photographer for my wedding?

Numerous photographers urge reserving a photographer right when you become engaged, or at least until you recognize when the wedding date is. It is suggested that the engaged couple book 8-12 months in advance since many studios book wedding dates promptly. Weddings are more numerous from months of May all the way to October while the weather is most favorable. If you select to have your wedding within this period, the photographer you select will in all likelihood want a non-refundable deposit or retainer fee to hold your wedding date. This ensures when the your wedding arrives you will have this photographer or studio ready for you, as well as ensuring a job for your photographer. The sooner you book your personal photographer, the more likely that you will be able to work with your first choice.

What are some of the benefits of hiring a professional?

The crucial benefit to hiring a professional wedding photographer is experience. The vast majority wedding photographers have extensive experience working with numerous various individuals and tough personalities. They have confronted tough weather conditions, and faced various technical problems. Since they are specialized in photography, they are well equipped to deal with assorted sizes of the weddings or for the different demands for photos. Unlike a friend or relative of the couple, a professional photographer’s main goal is capturing candid moments on film. Recognising they are expected on delivering brilliant photos that will be cherished for many years to come, they are less apt to be carried away by aspects of the ceremony. With an event that allows no second chances, hiring a professional is a good investment that will help keep your memories of your special day around for years.

How do I choose a photographer for my wedding?

First, get a few recommendations from people you are friends with about different photographers they have used. Friends and relatives who have had positive experiences with the photographers or studios they have used should be more than eager to share this information with you. After reviewing websites as well as portfolios on the internet, get in touch with each studio or particular photographer that you are interested. Schedule a meeting at their studio and look at samples of their work in person, preferably with each individual of the engaged couple. Ask the photographer to view pictures from assorted weddings, and if possible a full-scale wedding. Doing it this way provides for thorough evaluation of the various styles as well as the formats of photography, or even artistic impressions that each photographer can provide for you. Ask yourself if they share your artistic vision while looking through their portfolio. Are you in agreement with the various styles that they use? Do you agree with the level of their quality? Likewise, take note how well you interact as well as communicate with each photographer. Besides friends and family, your photographer is the one individual you will be interacting with the most. Being comfortable enough to interact with them during your wedding will decrease the stress of an a day which is already hectic. Once you have selected a photographer whose work you are pleased with, and whose personality is compatible with your own, you can then go over price ranges.

When hiring a professional photographer how much should I expect to spend?

You should expect photography by itself to be just about 5% to 10% of your total budget. That could be anywhere from $900 to $2,000, and possibly up to $10,000. This is all dependent on contrasting components such as advertising, transportation, education, and insurance. Quotes on price include the cost of equipment such as film as well as cameras. Top-notch professional cameras can range in the thousands. While producing black and white film is much more expensive than preparing color prints due to a long handcrafted operation. Other things that couples have to factor into their budget for photography involve the amount of hours that photographers spend while at your wedding, including additional photographers, any additional prints, as well as custom albums. In addition, anticipate to spend more for a professional who is in high demand.

How about photos that are black and white as opposed to pictures that are color?

There are a some benefits as well as draw backs when it comes to shooting in both black and white, as well as color film. Color is the more proficient of the two formats. It furnishes you an precise depiction of the events that took place, and can easily be converted into black and white prints. However, they do not last as long as prints that stem from black and white film. Nevertheless numerous couples select color since it is not as pricey as black and white film. Black and white film is the alternative for numerous wedding photographers who view themselves photojournalists. Additionally, many couples believe that black and white photos have a feel of classic elegance and timelessness to them. The primary reason why it costs more to shoot with film that is black and white rather than with color is because it is produced by hand. In this case, each photo is an original piece of artwork that is untouched by technology. Selecting either black and white film, or color prints will all be dependent on what the photographer chooses to use, what styles you are akin to, and the amount you are ready to spend.
